Pivot to Profit Week 3 Day 2: “What is Content?”

If you read yesterday’s challenge post, then you already know what content is!

For the sake of being repetitive (because practice makes perfect, right?), content includes anything valuable that you put out into the world to be consumed by a reader/viewer.

This includes things like:

  • Social media posts (both the picture/graphic and the wording)
  • Blog posts
  • Emails
  • Signage (if in person)

Now that’s pretty generic information, and chances are you already knew at least some of that.

Content is an extremely important ingredient in your marketing strategy.

What you put out into the world should attract someone who is your perfect customer and repel someone who is not your perfect customer.

You might be thinking “WHAT?! I don’t want to repel anyone!”

Except...yes, you do want that.

You want your audience to be filled with people who know, like, and trust you...who LOVE every single thing you make and who scramble to be the first in line to buy when you put out a new product or collection.

The way to get that raving-fan filled audience?

You guessed it...it’s through your content.

This is where that buzzy phrase “on brand” comes into play.

Yes, the visuals and the graphics that are part of branding all matter, but the content is what gives the brand a voice.

What does that mean to you?

You are going to be SUPER clear about who you (as a business) are and who you want to attract.

This means getting razor sharp on the message you want to send, the words you want to use, the vibe you want to give off...then going ALL OUT with it in your content.

Don’t shy away from putting a stake in the ground and saying, “this is who I am, this is what I stand for”, because with that message, you are also saying “...and my brand creates products for people who resonate with those values.”

Today’s Task:

I want you to take a look at the content you are putting out and ask yourself these questions:

  • “What does this content say about me/my business/my brand?”
  • “What kind of audience am I attracting with this content?”
  • “Am I speaking to my Perfect Customer with this content, or am I missing the mark?”

There is NO right or wrong here: this is an introspective look to start your creative wheels turning. There’s a page in the challenge workbook that can help you walk through this activity.

Sometimes we can get caught up in posting or sharing just to get something out there (or worse, we don’t put anything out at all!). When you are done (or if you get stuck!), come on over to today’s post in the group and let us know what you came up with
