5 Ways to Ease the Pain of Holiday Shipping Delays

So...yeah.

Shipping delays are a really regular part of the holiday season, but in keeping with the 2020 brand, this year it’s EXTRA ridiculous.


On the bright side, part of the reason for these exceptional delays is the overwhelming number of packages that have been sent out...meaning that people have shopped online more than ever! The New York Times reported an estimated 3 billion (yes, that’s billion with a B) packages will be sent by the end of the holiday season.

We’re gonna take that little nugget of info and put it in our back pocket for now, though.


The downside is that packages are definitely delayed across the board. 

Now, for the most part it’s just a couple of days, so it’s not THAT bad if you are getting your orders out right away.

Well well well, it’s just about time for turkey!

This is it: the final week before the official start of the holiday shopping season.

 

I know that you’ve got a LOT of making to do, so I’m gonna keep this short and sweet today by sharing a list of reminders and giving you suggested jumping off points in case you are in that “I have so much to do but I don’t know where to start” mode.


Shipping

The USPS has suggested the following dates as shipping cutoff deadlines for packages to be received by Christmas.

  • USPS Priority Mail Express: Next day, ship by Wednesday, December 23rd
  • Priority Mail: 1-3 days, ship by Monday, December 21st
  • First-class Mail: 1-3 days, ship by Friday, December 18th
  • USPS media mail: 2 to 8 days, ship by Wednesday, December 16th
  • USPS retail ground: 2 to 8...

In true 2020 fashion, this year has been exceptionally difficult for the US Postal Service, which is how the vast majority of handmade sellers ship their products. Financial setbacks and political nonsense have thrown up roadblocks in the system: despite that, the USPS has been pretty true to their credo of “neither rain nor sleet nor snow…” in getting their packages to their destinations.
